We are witnessing a global revolution. A movement of movements. From the Arab Spring, to the Occupy protests, to the world-wide push for climate protection, we are part of a major shift in human society. The more Melodeego gets involved in this movement, the more the band’s music is inspired by the people involved. “Fear Them Not” is Melodeego’s newest record, and is dedicated to every person who is standing up in the face of fear in order to change the world.

about

I was lying in bed, not wanting to get up, and it seemed almost out of nowhere that this absolutely awesome sense of euphoria overcame me...

I had been in a serious rut for a while. I was trying to prove myself both as an artist and an activist and I had these incredibly inflated images of what it meant to be either. Obviously, in my mind I didn't qualify, because to be either meant you had to be some kind of superhuman.

The song first started with the line, "Hey Atlas, put the world down, it's me who needs you most." It was supposed to be about someone in a relationship with a person who shoulders the world’s problems and how they never get any love from that 'atlas'. By the end of the song, I realized that I was both 'atlas' and the 'lover', shouldering all everyone's problems, and ignoring myself.

I wrote 3 verses and a chorus without even sitting up. I reached for my guitar and started figuring out the shit I was hearing in my head. I began singing the melody loudly which is something I had never done before while writing a song. I was always too insecure before, both about my voice and my songwriting ability. But this time, I didn't care.

It was as if I had been holding all the world's problems and suddenly they were lifted. I think it was the first time in years I felt so free.

lyrics

I wanna tell every person I see how I feel today
I'm steppin out again for the first time
I feel my knees lift me on up, and outta dismay
I feel my tongue turn prose to rhyme

Locked away, ball and chain, by a man who looks the same
But it's me who came not him, he's gone away
What was once opaque is now illuminated, was adrift has now found shore
I've been livin in a prison that's been limitin my vision of myself, but not no more

Why can't we see
How easy
It is to be free

I've been missin’ what it is that gets us out of bed
I've been swimming circles in this swamp that occupy my head
You looked into my crying eyes, and a human you did see
Turns out what I was looking for the whole time was looking right at me

Why can't we see
How easy
It is to be free
